Honeycomb: Wild - MG

Malfroy's Gold
$71.45 750 g Honeycomb: Wild - MG

Wild Honeycomb, supplied in a (single-section) wooden frame. Harvested straight from bee-friendly Warré hives, in permanent apiaries, situated in the Blue Mountains World Heritage area. Each comb is unique- a rare blend created by the bees, never to be repeated.

This ethical, sustainable and medicinal Wild Honeycomb* is a Delicious Produce Awards ‘State Winner’, as well as a Royal Easter Show Gold Medal Winner.

Biting down on a rich, sticky piece of Malfroy’s Wild Honeycomb is a unique gastronomic experience; the wonderful flavour and aroma of pure honey is amplified when preserved in the thin wax chambers of the comb. When eating comb, it is easy to appreciate and savour the true essence of honey and marvel at the wonder of nature in producing such a perfect food. The slight waxy residue that remains after eating the comb is entirely natural and can be chewed like gum, while the sweetness lingers.

The health benefits of eating honeycomb outweigh liquid honey, as all the natural elements are preserved and no heat has been applied at any stage of harvesting or processing. The wax is also virgin wax, produced entirely by the bees to store the precious nectar. In contrast, most other honeycomb producers in Australia give the bees a thick artificial 'starter' sheet of beeswax which increases yield but greatly decreases the flavour, texture and purity of the end product.

*Malfroy’s Wild Honeycomb is the only of it’s kind commercially available in Australia. Honeycomb is produced entirely by wild bees, in wild environments; Bees are housed in wild type (natural Warre comb) hives. Colonies function using minimal human intervention- only genuine surplus honeycomb produced in a good season is harvested gently.

Malfroy’s Gold practices holistic ‘Natural Beekeeping’, an alternative and ethical approach to apiculture that focuses on bee health over honey yield. Natural Beekeeping practices exceed both the organic and biodynamic standards for apiculture.

We are loving our first Ooooby box, my kids asked if they could visit [the growers] to thank them for the amazing apples! Too cute. Totally pleased with the quality, quantity and ease. It was like opening a treasure box.
